Riverside Education
Park Hill School District

Nestled between the river and the international airport in southern Platte County, the Park Hill School District is one of the educational jewels in the crown of the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Park Hill's reputation for excellence is a major reason for the slow, steady growth of the population within the district boundaries.

The community in the Park Hill School District is extremely supportive of its schools, consistently passing the bonds and levies necessary to build, maintain and operate Park Hill's nine elementary schools, three middle schools and two high schools.

Honors & Awards
It is not just the Park Hill School District community that notices how well the Park Hill schools are performing. The district's overall high achievement led to state honors like Accreditation with Distinction, the Distinction in Performance Award and North Central Accreditation, as well as national awards like the SchoolMatch programs 'What Parents Want' designation and a Gold Medal ranking from Expansion Management magazine.

Park Hill School District's high achievement is a result of its amazing teachers and support staff, so it is no surprise that the Park Hill staff are always receiving individual honors and awards for their excellence.

Just in the last few years, Missouri's superintendent, principal and teacher of the year programs have honored Park Hill School District employees. Each year dozens of local organizations like the Chamber Of Commerce honor school district employees for their service and dedication to students.

Park Hill by the Numbers
— Student/teacher ratio: 15:1
— Teachers have an average of 12.8 years of teaching experience
— 83% of teachers have master or doctorate degrees
— ACT composite scores of 23.3 are not only above state and national averages, but are also the highest in the region
— State assessment scores are above state averages in every subject and at every grade level

Growth
With 9,343 students in the 2002-2003 school year, the district has seen steady and occasionally dramatic growth. One of its most recent responses to this growth was construction of its second high school, the Park Hill South High School that opened in Riverside for the 2001 school year.

Number of schools
Besides this modern building and the original Park Hill High School, the district has nine elementary schools, three middle schools and one junior high school. The district also operates the Park Hill Day School early childhood center.

Strong points
Among the Park Hill School District's strong points is a low 14:1 student teacher ratio, down from 15:1. Actual student/classroom teacher ratios are 21:1. District teachers in 2002-2-003 have an average of 14 years experience. Of the district's teachers, 99.5 percent have professional or provisional certification.

Services
The district provides a wide range of services, from the Parents as Teachers parent education program to the district's Special Education Services for children with a variety of special learning needs. The Bright Beginnings early intervention program provides services to preschool children who meet state guidelines for a range of disabilities.

Success
District success can be measured in several areas. Of Park Hill graduates, 72 percent continue to a two-year or four-year college, university or other institution of higher education. Three hundred and ninety students are enrolled in the district's gifted programs and the drop out rate for 2001-2002 was a low 2.4 percent. In 2001-2002, 12 percent of the district's high school population took advanced placement courses.

Vocational training
The district also operates an excellent vocational technical training program. Both high schools have a partnership with the Northland Career Center, a vocational-technical school. The program offers both morning and afternoon classes.
