Ensuring safe and planned
development of our community

The Planning & Economic Development Department serves the community by developing, administering and enforcing standards that preserve and enhance the quality of life within the community, as well as providing economic development opportunities to strengthen the local economies. This division reviews all applications and accompanying plans and makes recommendations to the appropriate boards and/or commissions. The department provides staff support for the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Aldermen, Board of Zoning Adjustment, and the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Commission. The department also provides information to the general public, including realtors, appraisers, developers, contractors, citizens and others, regarding general and specific land use issues, as well as development projects within the City.

Mission
Your Planning & Economic Development Department works toward systematic development of our growing and exciting community. The department's mission is:

"To maintain an attractive, safe and functionally built environment, maintain quality neighborhoods, ensure that development meets the standards set by policy makers, and facilitate economic growth."

It's Mowing Season

Tall grass is one of the most common code violations in Riverside.  City ordinance requires that grass be kept below 10 inches throughout the year.  If you have questions about this ordinance or have special issues related to your lawn, please contact the Code Enforcement Division at 816-741-3993.
